Kōkako

The kōkako defends large territories by using complex singing, including the longest known duetting of any songbird in the world. The North Island kōkako are only found in New Zealand, as they are poor fliers and instead prefer to run and jump from tree to tree using their strong and long legs. Sadly the South Island kōkako were declared extinct in 2007, since the last sighting at Mt Aspiring in 1967.
